Welcome to University of Washington School of Social Work & Home & Community Services CORE training program. The CORE training program is specifically designed for HCS field staff and Aging Network case managers.

This training program is composed of three units. Units 3 & 4 are available online and Unit 2 is currently offered as a face-to-face class only. Each unit has a central theme and addresses critical skill and knowledge areas essential to effective service delivery. The objectives of the CORE training program are to:
  • Increase both the practical and theoretical knowledge of staff
  • Strengthen professional identity
  • Strengthen knowledge of the psychology, physiology and social implications of aging, chronic disability and illness
  • Increase worker understanding of normal adult development
  • Strengthen worker knowledge and understanding of the impact of cultural diversity on their work
  • Increase worker skills in working cross-culturally
  • Strengthen worker understanding of client autonomy, empowerment and advocacy issues
  • Increase worker knowledge regarding legal alternatives for vulnerable adults
  • Increase worker skills in assessment and service delivery for younger adults with chronic illness or disabilities.
